Intimacy Coordination
and Higher Education
It is standard practice to involve a stage fight or stunt coordinator in productions where fight scenes are happening. In that way you can create a safe work environment for everyone involved. But it hasn’t been a standard practice for intimate scenes. This can give room for misinterpretation and as we saw with the #Metoo and TimesUp movements, room for abuse of power.
A new profession is emerging of intimacy choreographers, coordinators and directors. Trained professionals and movement experts who adhere to trauma-informed practices to create safe, creative spaces before and during productions, helping directors fulfill their visions while providing tools for the actors process while maintaining an impartial presence.
Lexie is a trained actress, experienced performer, a sexologist and a trauma-informed psychotherapist. In addition, she has trained with Theatrical Intimacy Education in the US and extensively with Principle Intimacy Professionals from Canada, and is bringing this knowledge to Norway.
In 2022, she began guest lecturing at Kristiania University College at the Institute of Performing Arts, and at Kabelvåg Film school University of Tromsø.
Through lectures and workshops talking about boundaries, power structures and intimacy on stage and screen the demand for a broader access to this information led to the development of the elective course Culture of consent and intimacy coordination for stage and audiovisual media , available to students of BA in the creative industries at Kristiania University College.
If your organisation or school interested in booking a lecture or workshop for performing arts students and/or professionals you can write her a message here: hello@lexiekoren.com
